Gotham Knights is set to arrive on the 21st of this month. That means we’re just days away from its release, which is a good thing. After all, the hype surrounding the game is at a fever pitch. People want to play it; the sooner, the better. The problem is that one store took “the sooner, the better” to the wrong level. How? A particular store accidentally gave some gamers their copy of the game early.

The reveal comes from a Reddit user, and while Reddit isn’t always the most reliable of places for information and news, this person posted a PS5 copy of the game, something they shouldn’t have had short of being a reviewer for a publication, which they weren’t.

Furthermore, in the post accompanying the PS5 game picture, they said the following.

“Retailer I usually shop at somehow got it early and sent me a message lol. So I just picked it up.”

Now, on its own, that’s not a bad thing. Sure, they get to play it sooner than others, but it’s not too huge of an issue. However, that same Reddit thread where they posted their copy soon got swarmed with questions about Gotham Knights, from the gameplay to the leveling systems and more beyond that. The person even posted some PS5 gameplay footage to the subreddit so that people could get a better indication of how it looks and plays. Unfortunately, that means there are spoilers and leaks out there again, and that’s not what most gamers are after.

If this story sounds familiar to you, it should. Not too long ago, it was revealed that an official art book for the game had been leaked online. The art book in question was given to special people by the development team for the game, WB Montreal, and featured special art from the game that also happened to have spoilers in it. No sooner had someone gotten this art book than they posted some of the spoilers online. Prompting one of the heads of WB Montreal to call them out and blast them for willingly spoiling the game at the first opportunity.

Adding to all this was the backlash from fans when they heard that the console versions of Gotham Knights would run at 30 FPS and not 60 FPS. Of course, that’s not the biggest concern in the world in context, but many were upset because, for the next-gen systems, they felt the game should run at 60FPS like numerous other titles.

All in all, WB Montreal has had a bit of a rough time leading up to the launch of their game. But, despite these setbacks, people are still hyped for it. Should reviewers and gamers be kind with their remarks, this could be one of the bigger hits of this gaming year.
