For years Silent Hill fans felt that the franchise would remain dormant. After Hideo Kojima took his leave from Konami and thus canceled Silent Hills, there hasn’t been any news of what’s to come. Of course, there have been persistent rumors and speculation of what might be coming down from Konami. Fortunately, for fans of the IP, news finally came in the form of a special Silent Hill presentation. It unveiled several projects, including a remake of the beloved psychological horror game Silent Hill 2.

While the in-house team over at Konami originally crafted Silent Hill 2, the remake is being sent off to another studio. Bloober Team, the folks behind Layers of Fear and The Medium, is heading the game development. So far, we’ve only received one trailer for the game, and with it comes a look at a modern take on Silent Hill 2. Although there might be some changes, Bloober Team is stating that they are taking a faithful approach to the original installment. A new interview between DreadXP and Anna Jasinska, the chief marketing officer for Bloober Team, highlights this approach developers are taking.

DreadXP asked Anna if Konami is allowing Bloober Team to put their own spin on Silent Hill 2. According to Anna, Bloober Team will make adjustments to certain areas of the game that need modernizing due to the passage of time. But, the folks over at the studio are stating they are taking a very safe approach to any chances and will remain faithful to the original title. 

Again, we know that there are some adjustments to the game. For instance, we’re getting an over-the-shoulder camera point of view which might allow an easier time with combat. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see more marketing materials pop up to really showcase what new changes or adjustments have been made for this game. At the very least, Konami is very interested in the game and development team. It was earlier in the interview that Anna unveiled how Bloober Team came to acquire the ability to remake Silent Hill 2.

It seems that Konami put out a few invitations to development teams asking them to bring a prototype of a Silent Hill 2 remake. We’re not sure just who received that invitation, but Konami ultimately went with the direction that Bloober Team offered. Silent Hill 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but when it does launch into the marketplace, you can find it available for the PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.
