Part of the entire Viking experience is all about treasure hunting and trophy looting. Unfortunately, that experience won’t be travelling across to those playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Steam. The game, which recently launched on Valve’s PC platform, will not be offering up achievements on Steam.

While this may have seemed like some kind of glitch or oversight, to begin with, it appears that Steam achievements won’t feature as part of the game at all. As spotted by Eurogamer, Ubisoft has confirmed that the massive open-world Viking-era RPG will not be bringing its hoard of achievements across to Steam, after all. The confirmation comes in response to some disgruntled feedback regarding the game over on the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla community discussion page on Steam itself.

One user posted to acknowledge the lack of achievements in the game on Steam. ” Thanks for bringing this game to steam but please utilise the features,” it reads, continuing with “it would be awesome if you could add some steam achievements.” Ubisoft has since responded to this post, clarifying the situation, with an answer that probably wasn’t the one the original poster was hoping for.

The response from Ubisoft support reads “as there has been a lot of speculation – just to officially confirm. Steam achievements are not supported for this title. If there’s anything more we can assist with, please let us know!” Needless to say, this hasn’t gone down particularly well with Steam users. Many have questioned why Ubisoft would bring the game across to Steam more than two years after its launch if it wasn’t intending to add achievements for its users. A number of posts remark on achievements being a standard feature that they expected to be included in the Steam version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, with some stating that they’re now planning to get a refund on their purchase. A sense of disappointment and confusion abounds as previous Assassin’s Creed games on Steam have included achievements. So for many users, this move by Ubisoft seems to be perceived as something of a lazy choice.

While it’s evident that Steam players have strong feelings on this topic, PC players will however still be able to unlock Assassin’s Creed Valhalla achievements through Ubisoft’s own PC launcher, Ubisoft Connect. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla recently released its final DLC, entitled The Last Chapter. This expansion brings the story of protagonist Eivor Wolf-Kissed to a close and sets the scene for the next mainline game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam and Ubisoft Connect.
