You might have heard of a little game called Elden Ring – it was just a small title that took the world by storm earlier this year, no biggie. If you were one of the people that got involved in this mega hype train, then you will understand two things properly: how the game is incredibly difficult at times (which is to be expected from FromSoftware) as well as the huge number of creative and unforgiving bosses that litter this game. Well, there has been a rumor floating around about some Elden Ring DLC potentially coming our way, and that would be quite an occasion.

On November 1, 2022, the popular data miner Sekiro Dubi revealed some exciting details regarding some Elden Ring DLC, with the in-game files seemingly possessing 30 unused flags that are expected to contain information regarding bosses. Just think about that for a second, an Elden Ring DLC that could potentially include 30 new bosses, it really is the stuff dreams are made of. Elden Ring already consists of 13 mandatory bosses, but overall, the number of bosses is over 100 hundred, which really is an insane number.

This does pose a problem for the DLC though: will FromSoftware just include 30 more bosses in a similar vein to the ones already seen, or will the studio look to try something different, maybe even take some inspiration from previous Souls games and include a PvP boss as well? Who remembers The Old Monk in Demon’s Soul? A character who appears as an old decaying corpse with a spiky halo on his head while wearing a long golden robe. Being the last boss in the Tower of Latria, the Old Monk also qualifies as an Archdemon that the player must defeat in order to dispel the fog wall in the Tower Knight Archstone. But what makes this boss battle so unique is that there is also the opportunity of him being controlled by another player, that’s if you’re playing online while taking on this boss.

How ingenious is that? Instead of battling a boss whose movements and attacks you can memorize, for the most part, you have a player-controlled boss that becomes completely unpredictable. It makes for a much more difficult fight, but one that allows you to feel great triumph after completion due to the magnitude of things. But there is also the Glass Knight in Dark Souls 2 that uses a similar concept; a boss who can call for backup and put your back against the wall.

It is a long shot that this might happen because if FromSoftware has already considered revisiting this idea, then they would have included it in the original game. But let’s hope they mix things up a bit because the possibilities are literally endless. However, we shouldn’t jump ahead because we don’t even know if there is a DLC, or if there is, we definitely don’t know what will happen within it.
