Latest No Man’s Sky Update Misses The Mark For Some Payers

Update 4.0 isn’t landing well with everyone.

No Man's Sky

Hello Games only released the latest update for No Man’s Sky last week but it’s clear that the latest batch of content and features isn’t sitting well with everyone. The game’s 4.0 Waypoint update rolled out a few days back, alongside the game’s long-awaited release on Nintendo Switch.

While the Waypoint update does offer a lot of key options in terms of being able to adapt the game’s difficulty to varying degrees, it seems that some players have taken issue with some of the specific changes brought about in the latest patch. Particular problems that players over on Reddit aren’t too happy about include tweaks to how the game’s inventory system operates. For an overview of the latest changes in the update, check out the Waypoint trailer right here.

The inventory itself has had a complete visual overhaul with new slot designs, backgrounds and icons, to name a few changes. Most importantly though are the boosted number of inventory slots. However, these have come at a cost. The number of technology upgrades available has been decreased in order to provide players with arguably much more needed inventory slots. However, this has led to some players finding that their character isn’t as formidable as they were prior to the update when more upgrades to their technology were available.

Some players are really not happy about this, with certain gamers taking to Steam to express their frustrations through poor reviews since the launch of the update. Others have reportedly even gone so far as to send abusive messages to Hello Games, which is obviously completely inappropriate behaviour. It’s an odd thing for these members of the No Man’s Sky community to be doing, especially given that the latest update has been designed to make the game more accessible to all and more engaging for new players. Of course, you can’t please everyone all of the time, but it makes sense that Hello Games would want to ensure the game’s systems are suitable for the widest audience possible, particularly when launching No Man’s Sky on a new platform and to a potential new player base.

Some of the key changes brought about in the Waypoint update for No Man’s Sky include a new auto-save system, custom game modes and customisable difficulty settings throughout every aspect of the game. Additionally, players can enjoy No Man’s Sky in a new “relaxed game mode,” which lets them explore more freely with “minimal grind” and “reduced danger.”

Whether or not these disgruntled players will calm down and not cause the overall positive reception of No Man’s Sky to be impacted badly, time will tell. However, it seems that on the whole, the new changes are being well-received by many, despite the negative reactions of a few.
