The Inquisitor Gets A Name Change And Release Window

Just call it The Inquisitor from now on.

I, The Inquisitor

Some news for those looking forward to the video game adaptation of the bestselling Inquisitor book series by Jacek Piekara. The upcoming action title has had a bit of a name change, as well as bagging itself a new publisher in the form of Kalypso Media. The game was originally announced back in May this year by developers The Dust as I, The Inquisitor. Now, they’ve dropped the “I” from the title and are going ahead with the game as simply The Inquisitor.

Alongside the new name for the dark fantasy action title, Kalypso Media has revealed a release window for The Inquisitor. The publisher has confirmed that the game will be launching at some point during quarter four of 2023, although there’s nothing more specific than that as of yet. This means eager fans will be waiting roughly another year to get their hands on the gritty but compelling action game, which takes a story-rich bite out of an alternative history.

In case you missed the original reveal of the game from earlier this year, check out the latest official announcement trailer to get an idea for the morally ambiguous, exciting narrative adventure that The Inquisitor is bringing to consoles and PC next year.

Set in an alternative version of the 1500s, The Inquisitor will put players in the shoes of religious inquisitor Mordimer Madderdin. Mordimer is one of Jesus Christ’s army of zealots, as in this timeline, Jesus escaped his crucifixion and literally chose violence and revenge against all of his non-believers. It’s pretty dark stuff, but that’s kind of what makes it so compelling. As well as making the most of his powers of persuasion, Mordimer will of course have access to a full sword-based combat system in The Inquisitor, which is ideal for those times when you simply have to make someone talk, or simply survive an encounter with an evil being, of course.

A world of crime and corruption awaits as Mordimer goes about his duties, enacting the so-called Holy Law and punishing those who are deemed heathens. In an interesting twist, Mordimer also has the ability to travel into the Underworld, unbeknownst to any of his holier-than-thou chums in God’s Inquisition. There’s a twisted tale afoot though, as these visits to the realm of the dead have consequences. The overall narrative in The Inquisitor promises to take a much darker turn altogether, leaving players with plenty of morally challenging decisions to make and a mystery to solve.

Although the release window is a little while away, it’s good to know that there’s one on the horizon nonetheless. We’ll be keeping an eye out for further gameplay footage and updates on The Inquisitor as it ramps up the pre-launch excitement throughout the next 12 months or so.

The Inquisitor will release in Q4 of 2023 and will be available on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
