Quick Links
Transformations are a crucial part of the Destined One's arsenal in Black Myth: Wukong, allowing them to take the shape of certain bosses to use their attacks and, in some cases, gain their resistances and immunities. Picking the right transformation for a certain area or boss fight can make the game noticeably easier, especially when going up against some of the game's bigger threats.
Unlocking every Transformation available in Black Myth: Wukong will require you to take on sidequests throughout the game's six chapters, with two transformations being entirely missable if you aren't careful. To check which ones are missable with minimal spoilers, check out the handy Quick Reference Table down at the bottom of the guide.
Black Myth :Wukong - All Spells (& How to Get Them)
Spells are essential to mastering Black Myth: Wukong's combat, offering you powerful tools to supplement the Destined One's martial prowess.
Transformations in Chapter 1
During Chapter 1 of Black Myth: Wukong there's only one transformation to find.
Red Tides
Red Tides serves as both your introduction to Transformations and a source of fire damage for burning down foes. You'll obtain this transformation after defeating Guangzhi in the Forest of Wolves and claiming his weapon. Red Tides allows the Destined One to turn into Guangzhi, able to use focus-building light attacks and flaming charge attacks. Once the focus bar is full, using a heavy attack after dodging will unleash one of Guangzhi's powerful special attacks and empty the bar.
Transformations in Chapter 2
Chapter 2 also offers only a single transformation, though this time it is considerably easier to miss.
Azure Dust
Azure Dust is a powerful but easy to overlook transformation unlocked during Chapter 2. You'll need to help the Man-In-Stone by completing his quest, and then defeat him and interact with him again, if you want to learn it. Azure Dust transforms you into a huge Rock Guai with immunity to the four banes that can easily tank blows from pretty much any foe. When you get hit while transformed, you'll gain focus, which can be spent to cast a powerful spell that knocks most foes to the ground on impact.
Transformations in Chapter 3
Chapter 3 offers the largest number of transformations, though several of them require you to complete optional sidequests. The only one that is particularly easy to miss is Ashen Slumber, since it requires you to trigger a questline in Chapter 2.
Ebon Flow
Learning Ebon Flow requires players to gain access to the Ruyi Scroll and challenge Yin Tiger in combat. After taking down Yin Tiger, he'll give you his sword and unlock a third curio slot as a bonus. With his sword, the Destined One can take Yin Tiger's form and make use of his Blacksmith Block ability to deflect attacks. His light attacks and block will both build up focus, while his heavy attacks spend focus to unleash huge overhead swings. When you have full focus you can cast Windwalker, enhancing your light attacks and allowing you to pass through enemies by turning into wind when you dodge. Ebon Flow converts any Focus you build up before activating it, allowing you to use that focus while transformed.
Ashen Slumber
The quest for Ashen Slumber begins during Chapter 2, but can only be completed when you reach the Pagoda Realm in Chapter 3. After completing the Rat Prince's questline, you'll be able to claim this spell from a body in the Pagoda Realm.
Ashen Slumber allows the Destined One to become a Rat Guai, wielding blade and flame to burn their foes. Light attacks will build focus, which can then be spent to spew flames with the heavy attack or to cast the Fiery Burst spell. The latter ends the transformation early via a self-destruct attack, dealing damage in the area around you. Ashen Slumber is another transformation that retains focus you built up before transforming and converts it for use while transformed.
Hoarfrost
The Hoarfrost transformation can be found once you reach New Thunderclap Temple, by defeating the "Monk from the Sea" boss. This boss is a pretty good demonstration of how the transformation itself works, using thrashing tendrils and wide sweeps to build up focus, creating ice fields, and throwing icy projectiles. When transformed, you can use tentacle strikes and sweeps to build up focus, which is then spent to cast the Ice Sheet spell. When standing on snow or an Ice Sheet you created, your light attacks hurl snowballs that build up frost bane and your heavy attacks hurl huge chunks of ice that will deal extra damage to frozen enemies while also unfreezing them.
Umbral Abyss
The third and final transformation you can find in Chapter 3, Umbral Abyss allows the Destined One to take the shape of the Macaque Chief, wielding a vicious blade and, once your focus has built enough to activate Frozen Heart, devastating frost bane build-up.
You'll gain the Umbral Abyss transformation after defeating the Macaque Chief during the fight with Yellowbrow, at the end of the Chapter, and you'll be able to equip it at any point after that fight.
Transformations in Chapter 4
During Chapter 4 you can pick up two different transformations, with one requiring you to beat optional bosses hidden in the previous three chapters and the other requiring you to finish a sidequest in a secret area.
Golden Lining
The Golden Lining Transformation requires you to track down the Loong Scales and fight each of the hidden Loong Bosses scattered across the previous three Chapters, before challenging a new boss found in Chapter 4. After claiming the Loong Scales from a hidden room in Chapter 2, you'll have to take down Red Loong, Black Loong, and Cyan Loong in Chapters 1, 2, and 3. Once all three bosses are beaten, Yellow Loong will appear in Chapter 4 near the Relief of the Fallen Loong Shrine. Defeating Yellow Loong and claiming its weapon will unlock Golden Lining.
Golden Lining allows players to turn into Yellow Loong, gaining immunity to shock and an assortment of slashing attacks wielding a blade of lightning. Heavy Attacks become charging strikes, while Variable Combos can be used to see through incoming attacks (similar to Smash and Thrust Stance) and build up focus. When you have focus, the heavy attack will become a leaping lightning attack that can be chained up to three times.
Violet Hail
Violet Hail can be found by completing a quest in Chapter 4's Secret Area: Purple Cloud Mountain. Daoist Mi will task the player with collecting an item called Violet Hail (Key Items). Once you track down this item (which can be dropped by enemies in this area) and bring it back to Daoist Mi, it will trigger a boss fight. After beating Daoist Mi you'll receive Violet Hail (Spell).
This spell can be permanently missed if you defeat the Duskveil before giving Daoist Mi the Violet Hail, since he will vanish once the boss is defeated.
Violet Hail transforms the Destined One into a Worm Guai, which can coat its blade in eggs at the cost of some health, which will then infest their enemies' wounds. They can then use the Hive Mind Spell to detonate the larvae and deal damage. They can also self-destruct to deal damage in an area around them while reverting to normal, which will also detonate any larvae currently infesting enemies. As an added benefit, the Violet Hail transformation renders you immune to poison.
Transformations in Chapter 5
There's only one transformation to find in Chapter 5, and it serves as the culmination of a questline that begins in Chapter 1 and can easily fail.
Dark Thunder
The Dark Thunder Transformation is obtained when you complete the Horse Guai Quest, which begins in Chapter 1 and Concludes in Chapter 5. This makes it one of the easiest transformations to miss since failing to trigger all of Ma Tianba's dialog in each of his appearances will make the quest impossible to complete.
After completing the Horse Guai's quest by interacting with the broken cart in Chapter 5, you'll receive the Dark Thunder transformation. Fittingly, this transformation turns the Destined One into a Horse Guai, wielding a whip and immune to Thunder Bane. Using the Lightning Infusion spell, you can enter an Excited State and apply lightning to all of your attacks, with strong attacks creating a thunder formation to intermittently strike foes in its reach.
Transformations in Chapter 6
Azure Dome (Secret Boss Spoilers)
The final transformation available in the game, Azure Dome is obtained by defeating the secret bosses: Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings. Fittingly, Azure Dome is an exceptionally strong transformation that allows the Destined One to take the shape of a Stone Monkey, retaining all of their spellcasting abilities while trading their staff combos for unarmed strikes and heavy slams. The Stone Monkey is immune to the four banes and will outright absorb frost or scorch blight to amplify its attacks.
