EA Motive revealed about a month ago that they were working on a Marvel title starring Iron Man. The game is one of several Marvel-focused projects across the gaming space right now. The armored Avenger has been in video games in the past, but his solo titles were movie tie-ins and nothing more. Plus, those games were terrible. The EA Motive team is behind the upcoming Dead Space Remake, which looks to be a rather fantastic title. But how well this game will do is anyone’s guess right now. That being said, a new report indicates that the game is far enough along to go into playtesting sessions.

According to the report, EA Motive is doing testing that’ll start today and end on Wednesday. The belief is that the playtesting will be 1-on-1 sessions with people so that the team can hear feedback on what the game feels like and possibly get ideas on where to go in some directions. There’s no confirmation whether the playtesting will happen within the studio or remotely. But, given that the team doesn’t want to have any leaks happen with the title, they might do various things to ensure privacy and safety.

Easily the most important question about the Iron Man title is, “what will it be about and be like to play?” As noted, Tony Stark has been in multiple games in the past. The Avengers title from Square Enix, the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise, Marvel vs. Capcom, and the multitude of other games that Marvel has cranked out featuring their universe.

But a solo game hasn’t been done to quality in the past, which is a shame given the technology we now have to make games and the depth of the character’s history.

One of the most important things is ensuring that the armor/armors are correctly handled. More than likely, they’ll pull a Marvel’s Spider-Man and give players access to various armored suits from the comics and the movies. Whether they act differently or are just skins is up to the team. Once they decide that, they must ensure that Tony Stark can use his suits to fly around and attack freely. Imagine doing a bunch of open-world-style battles where fights can occur in the sky, on the ground, or in a chase through the streets and buildings. The possibilities are there.

Just as important is the cast of characters. Tony Stark is never alone when he has to deal with problems. He’s got Pepper Potts, his best from James Rhodes, who can help him as War Machine, and others from the comics they can pull from.

No matter how these playtests go, hopefully the Iron Man title turns out well. Because if it does, maybe they’ll get access to more Marvel heroes in the future!
