Nintendo has been hard at work trying to fix the ongoing issues with its Nintendo Switch Sports title. As reported before the weekend, Switch Sports had to be taken offline after the game’s latest update had some ill-desired effects. Now though, Nintendo has provided some news as to when players can expect to see online functionality restored. In addition, it’s also detailed how it plans to compensate those who’ve missed out on an entire weekend of game time.

Last week, Switch Sports’ version 1.2.1 was rolled out as a means of adding bug fixes and improving cheat prevention in the game. Unfortunately, the new update actually caused the sports simulation title to crash pretty regularly for many players. The crashes were taking place during the loading screens before matches, causing the game to force quit and therefore rendering its online play pretty unworkable for most players. Nintendo was then forced to suspend the rollout of the update and take the game offline entirely while it investigated the issue.

It seems as though the company has now found a way forward though. In a new update on Nintendo’s Japanese website, as spotted in VGC, fixes for Switch Sports will be implemented this week. This will be done via two new updates, the first of which is version 1.2.2. This rolls out tomorrow, October 18 and will restore online play functionality to the game. After that, version 1.2.3 is expected to roll out on Thursday, October 20 and will restore players’ save data backups for the game. However, the date for this is still not definite as yet. Players will probably need to download both of these new updates this week before they’re able to access Switch Sports to the fullest again.

Nintendo is also aware of the inconvenience this will have caused many Switch Sports players and is offering some bonuses in the form of compensation. From tomorrow until November 3 players will be rewarded with double points in-game for playing online matches. In addition, those who’ve previously played Switch Sports and are subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online will have their membership period lengthened by a week.

Although it’s clearly been frustrating for players to have had to experience a weekend of downtime, at least there’s now a fix in sight for those itching to get back into their Switch Sports experience. Plus, a week’s extra membership and some extra in-game points are a nice way of compensating for the situation. In other update news, the game’s free Golf update has been pushed back to this year’s holiday season, although we don’t yet have an exact date for when that will be released yet. Watch this space.

Nintendo Switch Sports is out now for the Nintendo Switch. It’s expected to be back up and running in full by the end of this week.
