Persona 5 Composer Picks Nintendo Franchise He’d Most Want to Work On

We’d be up for his music in these games!

Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

The importance of music in video games can’t be overstated. This goes far beyond the sound effects many would connect to the genre–instead, we’re talking about the background tracks that play as you wander through the game’s world or the tunes that play as you rush into battle to take on epic foes. Music matters in video games and is praised often. You can probably even name a composer or two from the video game world, with the quality of game music reaching new heights in recent years. The jazzy title Persona 5 was composed by the infinitely talented Shoji Meguro. Fans loved his score in the game, and Nintendo Switch fans will get to hear it soon enough.

Speaking of Nintendo, Meguro was asked in an interview about what franchises from The Big N he’d love to compose if allowed. He has some fascinating choices.

“That’s a tough one! Going by my favorite world feel, I’d have to say Xenoblade. But it’s hard to toss Fire Emblem to the side… But man, I’d love to write songs for a Zelda game!”

Indeed, he picked some of the greats. All three of these franchises are known for their musical scores and how they elevate the world and the lore. Considering how legendary the music for Persona 5 is, Shoji Meguro would feel right at home here.

Will he get his wish and get to create tracks for these franchises? It’s hard to say, but you obviously can’t discount the possibility of it happening, especially since all three franchises are on fire right now and will have new titles in the future behind the ones that have just come out or will arrive soon.

Xenoblade Chronicles, for example, released the fourth title of its franchise back in July and was met with incredible praise from fans and critics. They loved the open world, the characters, the plot, the combat system, and, yes, the music. Even the voice actors behind the characters had a blast playing the game. So while a fourth title isn’t confirmed, the team has said they’re interested in keeping it going.

Fire Emblem, meanwhile, has a title coming out in January from the team at Gust. However, the new title isn’t confirmed to be a mainline game due to the connections to past characters, which might mean a new game is in the works that Meguro could work on later.

Finally, The Legend of Zelda has the sequel to Breath of the Wild coming out in the recently announced Tears of the Kingdom. That title is looking to capture lightning in a bottle again. That was undoubtedly part of why it was delayed so many times. While Meguro likely can’t work on that one as the game is nearing completion, you know there will be another one made soon enough.
